2022 Crete Presentation

August 11-12, 2023 - Tallahassee, Florida

The NHASED General Convention and Crete Ceremony was held the weekend of August 11-12. Many thanks to those who participated.  A recap is below, but there was one important resolution that was passed.  It was proposed that we promote our Woman of the Year Award to a more prominent status, and rename it the Anne Elizabeth Hall Woman of the Year Award.  It was unanimously voted in, and blessed by Brian H.  All former and future winners of the award, which goes to the highest placed woman in the final standings (or Crete winner) will be recognized as the Anne Elizabeth Hall Woman of the Year.

The NHASED convention was called to order at our official bar and grill, the Corner Pocket on Friday night.  We were able to secure the back room for the occasion.  I was happy to see a great turnout by our membership, and we enjoyed good food, drink and conversation.  During the evening, we congratulated the 2022 winners and conducted the Premier League draw (assignments attached).  Also, a new tradition was born this year.  Our outgoing champion, Jason R, passed the winner's jacket to our new champion, Bill H.  Check the convention web page for photos of the jacket ceremony and a group photo of those who were able to attend.

On Saturday, we held the annual NHASED Texas Hold 'em Poker Championship.  Master smoker, Tim H, cooked a couple of pork butts for the event, and sides were provided by the hosts, your commissioner and wife.  Thanks to Jason C for managing the tournament and for providing his famous cookies for dessert.

We started with two tables of entrants.  For the first hour, as a warmup, we played limit poker.  We then had a chip add-on, and moved to no-limit stakes.  Early into the 2nd hour, the field was reduced to the "final table" and fabulous prizes were awarded.  After some expert card playing by the remaining field, we eventually narrowed it down to the final 3:  Chris H, Tim H, and Kevin (non-NHASEDer) finished in the money.  After Kevin was eliminated, Tim and Chris . . . having roughly even stacks . . . agreed to split the pot and play one hand for the coveted bracelet.  Tim drew an A-Q and Chris had a 3-9.  Things looked good for Tim until a 3 came on the river and Chris walked away with the bracelet.  Pictures of the event are available on the convention web page.

A new tradition is born. Our 2021 champion, Jason R, passed the winner's jacket to our 2022 champion, Bill H.
